Buena parte de estos documentos fueron donados a Narciso Alonso Cortés por diversas personalidades, entre las que destacan Alfredo Giannini (documentos relacionados con Massard, relativos al período de juventud de Zorrilla) y la Baronesa de Wilson (documentos relativos a su estancia en Roma).\r\nEn estos documentos encontramos información sobre un amplio período de tiempo, que va desde la juventud del poeta hasta su madurez, estando especialmente representadas su estancia en Roma y en Burdeos y su etapa de madurez, en la que encontramos referencias a su religiosidad, a sus problemas de salud, a sus apuros económicos, sus amistades y a su coronación en Granada entre otros asuntos.
